Preparing Your Car for the Move-
1. Wash it and keep it ready for inspection.
2. Deactivate the alarm or else it will affect the life of
the battery. Also check the battery for leaks.
3. The gas tank should not be filled more than one-fourth.
4. Remove parts and accessories like antenna and fog lights.
5. Check the radiator for antifreeze.
6. Clear all your personal belongings from the car.
Inspection of the Vehicle-
The bill of lading is a very important document that must be duly signed by the auto shipper as well as you before the car is loaded onto the vehicle carrier. It provides information regarding the condition and status of the car before the car is ready to be shipped. This enables you to claim a file against the auto transport company within two weeks of delivery, incase there is any damage caused to the car in transit. However, as agreed, you need to make the full payment. Fix a schedule well in advance to avoid any last minute confusions.
Other Helpful Tips-
1. Before assigning any auto shipper with the task of
transporting your vehicle, make sure that you understand all
their terms and insurance policies. See to it that your car
is properly insured before you hand it over to them.
2. Although most auto transport services guarantee a pick up
and delivery at a given time and date, it is not always
possible due to stringent safety laws and inspections on
auto transport services by the DOT.
3. Some auto shippers require a deposit or payment to be
made in advance. Hence, make the necessary enquiries so that
you are not in for any disappointment.
4. All auto shippers offer two options for
delivery-door-to-door delivery and terminal delivery. If a
delivery is not possible at your doorstep due to some
constraints, then you could opt for terminal delivery of the
vehicle. Terminal delivery implies delivery at a designated
place and at a given time.
